Training programme

Positive Behaviour Support

Proactive PBS strategies, de-escalation and least-restrictive practice for behaviours of concern.

Who it's for

Learning disability, autism, mental health and complex care teams, and their managers.

Typical duration

One to two days

Delivery formats

In-house practical (scenario-based)

PBS shifts the focus from managing incidents to understanding and preventing them. We build functional understanding of behaviour, teach de-escalation that actually works under pressure, and help teams write behaviour support plans staff will genuinely follow.

What’s involved

  • The function of behaviour and antecedent analysis
  • Writing and reviewing behaviour support plans
  • Proactive, active and reactive strategies
  • De-escalation and communication under pressure
  • Restrictive practice, restraint reduction and STOMP
  • Post-incident support, debrief and recording
  • Trauma-informed and autism-aware approaches

What changes for you

  • Fewer incidents and less reliance on restrictive practice
  • Behaviour support plans that are used, not filed
  • Safer staff and better placement stability
